Joseph Aspdin was a Hunslet bricklayer who in 1824 was granted one of the first patents for Portland cement. Aspdin didn't work alone, and his initial product was greatly improved by others, but he arguably created the most useful thing ever to emerge from Leeds. This website celebrates the Aspdin tradition, because it is made in Leeds, it is concerned with practical matters and it is capable of considerable improvement. We hope it proves useful.
